Past Events – 2018/2019

Summer Starts Here – Tuesday 18th June


Our final concert of the academic year celebrated the transition from exam time into the summer.

Whit Friday 2019 – Friday 14th June


We had a great time playing in the Whit Friday Marches in Saddleworth.

Tora Arnesen and James Everitt were voted in as President, Isaac Conroy as Principal Conductor, Deborah Ballaster as Secretary, Rachel Boyd-Moss as Treasurer, Thomas Hicken as Small Band Coordinator, Zoe Rankin as Librarian, Lewis Days and Danielle Lewis as Publicity and Alumni Officer and Thomas Nolan as Social Secretary. Alan Mowle was elected to the non-exec role of Assistant Conductor.

An Australian Extravagansa! – 15th November

An evening of classic brass pieces, upbeat swing, and popular tunes joined by the Footscray-Yarraville City Band visiting from Melbourne, Australia who regaled us with their commissioned piece ‘The Silent ANZAC’, as part of their 2018 European tour in memorial of the First World War.

UniBrass – Saturday 17th February

Hosted again by the University of York Brass Band this year in the York Barbican.

TriUni Concert – Saturday 3rd February

This year the Band will once again be joining the university brass bands from Warwick and Leeds for our annual TriUni Concert. This time we will be travelling down to Leeds.

Rehearsal with Richard Evans – Monday 22nd January

It was an honour to welcome Mr Richard Evans back to Durham to lead our Monday night rehearsal and help to prepare us for UniBrass 2018.

Christmas Concert – Wednesday 13th December

Once again we ateamed up with Durham University Concert Band to bring you a musical evening of Christmas entertainment, this year in the town hall.

Champions of Brass – Wednesday 15th November

We had a fantastic concert at Elvet Methodist Church with the Reg Vardy Band with guest conductor David Hirst.

We were delighted to work once again this year with David Hirst, after he helped prepare us for our victory at the inaugural UniBrass Shield Championships last year. This year he took our regular Monday night rehearsal and the conducted us for our concert a couple of days later.

Remembrance Sunday – 12th November

Joint Rehearsal with the Reg Vardy Band


The Reg Vardy Band joined us for an excellent rehearsal, where we rehearsed the massed items for our concert on 15th November.

Opening of the Garden of Remembrance at Durham Cathedral

The band had the great honour of providing the music for the service of outside Durham Cathedral opening the very first Garden of Remembrance.

A Summer Celebration


Durham University Brass Band celebrated both our 15th Anniversary and our success at UniBrass 2017 with this summer evening concert.

Whit Friday 2017


For the first time in several years the band was able to travel to Saddleworth to compete in the Whit Friday Marches playing Punchinello and Ravenswood.

Land of Hope and Glory Concert


We had the pleasure of once again playing in Durham Cathedral alongside many of the University’s best musical groups.

UniBrass Shield 2017 – 1st Place


UniBrass 2017 was host by the University Of York Brass Band at the Harrogate International Centre on 18th February. Everyone from dubb had a fantastic day, only made better by being crowned champions of the inaugural UniBrass Shield. Watch our award-winning set above!

Tri-Uni Tournament

For the 2017 annual TriUni Concert the university brass bands from Warwick and Leeds joined us in Durham Castle great hall for a fantastic joint concert. (Photo taken during the massed rehearsal)

Candlelit Christmas

For the 2016 Christmas Concert the band were joined by St Chad’s College Choir in St Oswald’s Church.

Trooping the Colour

Durham University Brass Band were joined by Durham University Concert Band for a masterclass and concert with the Band of the Royal Armoured Corps.

Remembrance Sunday 2016

The band once again led the Remembrance Parade in the nearby villiage of Brandon.

Having travelled again down to the University of Warwick, we were delighted to return in 3rd place. Here’s one of the piece’s we played.

Christmas Concert 2014

2014 saw another joint Christmas Concert with Durham University Concert Band.

Leyland Brass Band Masterclass & Concert


We welcomed the internationally renowned Leyland Brass Band to Durham on 15th November! The day incuded a fantatic masterclass by some of the world’s best brass players, whole band tuition from the legendary Mr Richard Evans and a superb joint concert in the beautiful Durham Town Hall.

DUMS ‘Last Night of the Proms’

A fantastic concert showcasing the music Durham University has to offer. We were joined by the university Orchestra, Choral Society, Big Band and many more for what was a wonderful evening under the roof of the beautiful Durham Cathedral.

An amazing performance by DUBB, being awarded the Most Improved Band and Best Student Composition awards. Congratulations to former condutor Dave Collins and Lewis Wilkison for respectively writing and narrating the award winning piece ‘The Lambton Worm’.

Remembrance Sunday Parade


An annual event including a parade and church service in the nearby village of Brandon.

Joint Christmas Concert with DUCB

A concert with DUCB at St Oswald’s. Featured a variety of pieces including I Love Christmas by our conductor Dave Collins.

Busking in Durham City Centre


Each year we form small groups of players to busk in Durham City Centre to raise funds for trips later in the year.

Massed Band concert with Leeds and Warwick

We travelled to Leamington Spa for a weekend for a joint concert with Leeds and Warwick University Brass Bands.

Unibrass 2013 in Lancaster


DUBB travelled to Lancaster for a weekend to take part in Unibrass for the first time. A valiant effect from the band ensured an excellent performance on the day. More photos and a video on the gallery page.

Collingwood College’s “A Night at the Proms”


In the summer term DUBB was pleased to play some British Proms Classics to a large audience outside Collingwood College.

Archive – Whit Friday 2012

In 2012 the band travelled to Sanddleworth, Lancashire to partake in the world famous Whit Friday Marching Band completion. A great afternoon was had by all, and the band received some pleasing results and good comments from the adjudicators.
